Markus Wörl

I have many years of experience as organiser and promoter of international Theatre – and Circus –  festivals.

For more than 12 years I was responsible for the theatre and performance program of the Tollwood Festival in Munich. During this time I presented numerous international groups, some of them for the first time in Europe and Germany. As a result, I have a large worldwide network and know many of the internationally important festivals and venues.

After my studies in theatre direction, I was engaged for many years as a director and dramaturg in Germany, Austria and Switzerland before taking over the program management of a Munich cultural center. I am a member of various theatre selection committees and panels and since 2008 a member of the European Circus and Street Theatre Network Circostrada.

In 2014, I was named “Chevalier des Arts et Lettres” (Knight of Arts and Literature) by the French Minister of Culture in recognition of my special efforts to promote French culture in Germany.

At the beginning of 2021, I founded the agency woerlpool to present extraordinary forms of theatre at European festivals and venues and to share my experience on sustainability in culture.

Even during my time at Tollwood I was repeatedly invited to panel discussions and lectures on issues of green and ecological tour management and sustainable festival organisation.

Meanwhile, I give lectures and workshops on the topic of green events throughout Europe.

In December 2021, I completed my further training as a climate protection officer / climate protection manager at the Offenbach Environmental Institute.

Since 2022 I have been a member of the expert council "Greening the Creative Europe Programme 2021-2027". We are developing proposals on how to integrate more ecological criteria into the EU's "Creative Europe" programme.
